Heron was written at Kasteel Groeneveld in Baarn, The Netherlands in the summer of 1971. There were grand pianos scattered throughout the crumbling castle and days were spent playing in the echoing rooms.

In the grounds of the castle the skies were filled with the wheeling herons that nested high in the treetops...

The track was included in the 1977 album 'Hot As Ice'.
